What is a day player?

A day player is an actor who is hired for a small role in a film, television show, or theater production that typically lasts for only one day or a few days of filming. Day players are usually cast to fill minor roles that do not require a significant amount of screen time or character development.

Day players are often brought in to play characters such as background extras, stand-ins, or minor supporting roles that only appear in a few scenes. They are not usually considered to be principal cast members and may not have their names featured prominently in the credits.

Day players are typically paid on a daily basis for their work, and their contracts may include specific terms regarding their roles, compensation, and scheduling. Although day players may have limited screen time, their contributions are still important to the overall production and can help bring depth and authenticity to the storytelling.
